After a decade of investigating the food system, it’s often difficult for me to determine what people who don’t do this for a living are seeing and not seeing.
So, tell me: What do you want to know?
Are you confused by labels; which one do you keep wondering about? Is there something you keep hearing that you’d like verified or unpacked? Maybe you want to know whether a particular food company’s claims about their practices are true? Is there a food-environmental issue you don’t understand? Which choices at the grocery store do you find difficult? Are you wondering if something is as nutritious as it’s made out to be?
Don’t hold back! Your questions can be broad or specific. They can be simple or complicated. They don’t even have to be questions; feel free to weigh in with thoughts on what you’d really like to read. I want to know how you’re thinking about food so I can make sure you’re getting information you can really use.
Thanks for doing this post—I was excited to see it and love the idea. What are your thoughts on delivery box subscriptions for things like wild-caught seafood (e.g., Sitka Salmon Shares) and pasture-raised meat (e.g., Wild Pastures)? Are they truly more sustainable/healthier options than buying meat from grocery stores? I've tried Wild Pastures before and everything on their website seems well-intentioned, but are there other consequences that kind of model has?
Great question. I was going to do something on the seafood ones- I'll think about whether it makes sense to look into them all together or divide it up!
I think the revelation that got me hooked on these topics is the connection of them all and how intricately everything "feeds" into each other. I think a lot of the general population doesn't draw these connections or know attainable ways they can make a difference. It can be overwhelming to think about each topic individually, but understanding they all are connected makes it easier for me to tackle how I want to impact the system. I think a piece really outlining this could be interesting.
Love this! Sometimes I think the connections can be overwhelming and I'm including too many, so it's nice to hear that they can actually aid in understanding these issues. Will think about a way to build this into its own story.
Great idea. I haven't done anything on genetic modification and I think it's an issue that is widely misunderstood in terms of potential impacts/why one might be concerned about it. Thank you!
Great question. The age numbers are a little alarming but I don't know if I've ever seen an analysis of how many farmers are actually needed to produce the amount of food we need. Thank you!

How does the public understand the idea of "genetic modification" and how does that relate to modern farmed animals?
